Steve from our marketing team takes a look at the future of metal scoring
As a marketer, I read a lot of internet blogs and articles to try and keep up to date with the world of business. You want to be aware of current trends and news, as well as picking up tips and advice for ideas to try within your own marketing. Amongst all these articles, a popular headline that pops up is “(something) is dead”.
I have seen all sorts in the time I have been doing this job, “QR codes are dead”, “SEO is dead”, right the way to possibly the most extreme of them all – “Print is dead”.
Now as a headline you have to admit they are catchy and I think the shock value of them is enough to get people looking at your content. So this got me thinking about writing a blog for our own website using the “XXX is dead” formula. I realised though that whilst catchy, the titles are also misleading. QR codes aren’t dead; admittedly some people put them in silly places (underground stations with no internet signal?) and they certainly aren’t as popular as people first thought but they have their uses. SEO isn’t dead; we get a regular stream of customers visiting this website as a result of organic search engine traffic. And as for print, well let’s just say I wouldn’t be writing this right now if it was. Yes we live in a digital age but there are certain needs we have that only print can fulfil.
QR Codes (Quick Response Codes) can be useful when used correctly
As for metal scoring, of course it isn’t dead. I imagine there are many printers and finishers who still use one, and for the type of work they produce it gives more than adequate results. However, just like QR codes, SEO and print, there are alternatives that for certain occasions, are better.
The moral of the story is you can claim anything is dead if you know of a better alternative. So if you produce and kind of folded work such as leaflets, menus or brochures that require a beautiful crease with a cracking-free spine, metal scoring is dead and only the Tri-Creaser Fast Fit will do.
