But what are the options?
Well we all know of the perforating accessories supplied with folding machines, and you’ve probably battled with them.
Despite the benefit of the high running speed of the folding machine, the coarse, puncturing effect of the blade-against-anvil design leaves an unsightly finish with a ridge on the underside of the sheet. When sheets are stacked, the ridge forms an oval-shaped pile of perforated sheets which can mean more troublesome guillotining. Not to mention the inevitable dust deposits that accumulates from such an aggressive puncturing action.
“But we perform our micro-perforating on a press…”, I hear you say…
Well, this way does have its benefits. It is proven that flat-bed methods give better, finer results. But consider the increased production cost per sheet on your presses when adding the micro-perforating application to this stage of the process. Another drawback is the repeated smashed blankets that are a consequence to this method of micro-perforating. Would it not be best to leave your presses freed up for more valuable and profitable work whilst avoiding the replacement cost of the smashed blankets?
Further still, perhaps you are in the habit of outsourcing your perforation requirements because you do not have the capacity to perform this operation in house? There is some convenience to this: simply send it off for somebody else to do the work whilst you concentrate on another task.
