True micro-perforation on your folding machine

If your perfs tear ragged, bulk up the stack, or still go out to letterpress, the problem is the perf wheel your folder came with. Here is how to end it for good.

Run a tear-off job through your folder and look along the perf line. If it is a row of ragged bursts, with paper dust on the rollers and sheets that will not lie flat in the stack, that job is fighting the perforating wheel the machine came with.

Standard folder perf wheels crash a coarse steel blade against a steel anvil. The teeth burst the sheet rather than cut it, every pass dulls them further, and a worn blade chips or snaps mid-run and stops the folder dead. So reply cards tear crooked in the customer's hands, the stack bulks up until boxes will not pack, and jobs that should run inline get sent out to be perforated on a cylinder at somebody else's price and pace.
